Recently, Starbucks Korea sold their own Yutnori game set, and I purchased one!
The cover of the game set can be used as a Yutnori game board.
It's very compact and practical.
Yut Nori (윷놀이) is a traditional Korean board game that has been enjoyed by families for generations. It's a game of chance and strategy, and it's sure to get everyone laughing and cheering.
Here's how to play Yut Nori:
• The game is played on a board with 20 spaces.
• Each player has four sticks, called "yut."
• Four board pieces per team
• The goal of the game is to be the first player to get all of your yut around the board and back to your home base.
To play, you'll need:
• A Yut Nori board
• Four yut sticks
• Four Mal tokens (per team)
In the Starbucks Yutnori set, instead of pawn figurines, they use tokens like above.
Usually, there is no designated design of traditional Yutnori Tokens.
Korean people sometimes use whatever is around them such as coins and Go pieces.
Here's how to take a turn:
1. First, make teams
2. Bundle the yut sticks in the player’s hands.
3. Shake the sticks and lightly toss the yut sticks like dice.
4. The number of yut sticks that land with the flat side up determines how many spaces you can move like dice.
5. If you get a "Yut," which is four yut sticks with the flat side up, you get to move an four spaces. You get one more chance to toss the yut sticks.
6. If you get a “Mo”, which is four yut sticks with the flat side DOWN, you get to move and 5 spaces. This also gives you an extra chance to throw the yut sticks.
7. The first player to get all of their 4 board pieces around the board and back to their home base wins!
Yut Nori is a great game for all ages.
It's easy to learn, but it's also challenging enough to keep everyone entertained. It's also a great way to learn about Korean culture.
